EVENT SCHEDULE

Spielmannszug Minnesota (SZMN) sponsors several events per year with the largest being the Prinzenkrönung and the Kostümball. The Hof and club members also attend and, in some cases, participate in several other events sponsored by other clubs and organizations. The following is list of major German-American ethnic events in the area. You are cordially invited to attend any or all of the events. Please check with the individual sponsor for admission fees and other more current information. The color coding is as follows:

  • Event name with Bold Italics and Blue Font - Sponsored by SZMn
  • Event name in Red with Normal Font-Sponsored by other organizations but the Hof and other members of SZMn participate in some way (e.g., ride on a float in a parade)
  • Event name in Black with Normal Font- Sponsored by other organization that we do not participate in but individual members of SZMn may attend on their own

Plucking the Prinzenpaare

This will be a fun event at the Glockenspiel in Saint Paul celebrating the reign of the Prinz Edward I and Prinzessin Millie I. Admission is included with your Crowning ticket or $5 at the door. Party, games, music, food and fun in the CSPS hall (above the Glockenspiel) from 7-10pm, please join us in this fun event leading up to the formal crowning of the new Prinzenpaare

The PRINZENKRÖNUNG has four aspects but the major objective is to open a new season of Karneval which begins officially on 11/11 at 11:11 AM (elften elften elf Uhr elf). The number eleven plays a big role in Karneval. Karneval season runs until Ash Wednesday of the following year. The focal point of the event is the crowning of the new Prinzenpaare. Event will be held at the Kelly Inn, Saint Paul this year, not at the Holiday Inn location from last year. $32.00 for non-members and $29.00 for members, email Patti Wendling or call 612-385-4138 for tickets. Frühstück is Sunday, November 13 at the same location as the Prinzenkrönung, Kelly Inn, Saint Paul. This breakfast is held to honor the newly crowned Prinzenpaare. The prices are as follows: $ 12.00 18 + / $10.00 11-17 / $5.00 -10 and under. The festivities will start at 9:30 am and will include a wonderful brunch and entertainment and there will be a cash bar that will include Bloody Marys! The newly crowned Prinzenpaar and Hofstaat will be there and it will be a chance to continue the weekend long celebration. Please contact Vickie Holz to purchase your tickets. 27th GAMGA Gala

German American Mardi Gras Association in Las Vegas. Friday night is the Kostümball and the crowning of the GAMGA Prinz. Kostumes are highly recommended. Saturday evening is the formal gala with everyone dressed in their finest. Showcased are the Prinzenpaare and Hofstaat from all of the attending clubs.
We'll be meeting Thursday night at the Hofbrahaus for dinner for anyone in Vegas that night

"Crazy Hat Evening". Like all other Karneval events, the purpose is to have fun, and this we do by designing, assembling, and wearing crazy hats. Event is held at the Winzer Stube in Hudson, WI

Weiberfastnacht is "Ladies Night Out". It is a party just for the women. The format varies from year to year. Some years, the ladies husbands and significant others, dressed as women, attend to check up on the real ladies. Event location will be at the back room at Gasthof zur Gemutlichkeit & Mario's Keller Bar

Kostümball is held near the end of the Karneval season and includes dinner, refreshments, music and dancing, other entertainment, door prizes and prizes for the best costumes.
Kostümball will be held at the Ideal Hall on north Dale Street in St. Paul. An excellent roast pork dinner is served by TST Creative Catering. Live music is provided for dancing.

The annual Kostümball at the Ideal Hall in St. Paul. Costumes are encouraged and will be judged. Lively music by Luebbert Kruizenga. Doors open @ 6:00pm with a delicious German Buffet dinner @ 7:00pm. Celebrate the evening with the newly crowned Prinzenpaar and performances by the Tanzgarde.

For some reason the number eleven plays a big role in Karneval. Karneval season runs until Ash Wednesday of the following year. The initial two objectives are the un-crowning of the current Prinzenpaare and crowning of the new Prinzenpaare. Event will be held at the in Holiday Inn Select, 3 Appletree Square, Bloomington this year, not at the Zuhrah Shrine location. Tickets are $37.50 and include a German dinner and dancing to the Bill Koncar Band with performances by the GAMGA Tanzpaar and SZMn Tanzgard.

Come celebrate with the Mardi Gras Society Chicago for their 121 year anniversary (11X11). Banquet tickets are $75.00 per person. Cocktails at 6pm-Dinner at 7pm. RSVP by May 28, 2011 and there are no refunds issued after that date. Dress code: Black Tie or Uniform (for current SZMn Prinzenpaar and Hof). For information contact Andy at 773-282-9861.
